Ray Brown at NOVA Fashion Week – February 2009 – Part II

Ray Brown, the designer of Ray Vincente, began designing women’s wear in 1983 as a freelance designer. He has worked as the feature designer of Fresh Start, a modelling organization based in Trenton, NJ, and has also designed custom made clothing for private and public individuals. His designs have been displayed in Ice Nine of NYC, NY, Philadelphia, PA, Black Expo in Atlanta, GA, and private shows in Trenton, NJ, and Atlantic City, NJ. His designs have also been available at the former CMR Fashions, New Hope, PA. In 2006 he started his Ray Vincente and Ray Vincente Eclectic! labels for women and men.

Ray specializes in designs for men and women. His philosophy of design is “Simple, Elegant, Stylish clothes with an Edge”. For women, he specializes in simple silhouettes in beautiful fabrics with a stylish edge. For men, he turns up the heat with designs that have a European style with an urban edge.

Léonché at NOVA Fashion Week – February 2009 – Part I

March 2006, marked the start of Léonché, a new and upcoming fashion label. Léonché, (pronounced “lay-on-shay”), grew out of a want to expose the world to the unique essence of various cultures. The founder, Almira Wilson, was born in February 1979 located in Washington, DC to Sheriff and Olabisi Daramy. Her parents originate from Sierra Leone, West Africa but her family roots extend to Senegal, Gambia, Morocco, Liberia, and Guinea. Born into a background saturated with art, culture & style, Almira welcomed her rich heritage into every aspect of her life.

The clever name Léonché originates from the French translation for lion. Why lion? A lion exemplifies a strong, independent and courageous spirit, which is everything Almira wants Léonché to be. For years, Almira has been designing international garments that exhibit fabrics from Africa and Europe. The company’s mission is dedicated to bringing new and creative ideas to the market place, by offering products that cater to women, men, and children, sizes 0 to full figured, heights short to tall. Léonché promises to be more than your average fashion label. Léonché wants to be your new standard!

DESIGNER
Taimur Baig, 24, was born in Dubai, and raised in Karachi, Pakistan. He has delved into many different fortes of Art, such as drawing, painting, photography and writing; becoming a published author by age 16. In 2006, Taimur moved to New York City for an internship with Kenneth Cole Productions. He is a self taught designer who now resides in Washington D.C. and is currently developing his debut Autumn/Winter 2009 collection

Nyamal Both at NOVA Fashion Week – February 2009

Nyamal Both has been doing fashion shows for two years now. In 2007, she showcased in events like Afrifest and Patis07 Africa Day at the Mall of America. She has also done shows at pageants like Miss Africa-Minnesota, Miss Junior Africa, and more. This year, she has showcased at universities and colleges, and the Africa International Modeling Competition in DC.

Nyamal Both is a 20-year old design born in Ethiopia but originall from the border of Sudan and Ethiopia. When she was young she developed a vision to express her multiple talents, of which fashion became her biggest achievement. She has been putting all of her passion into the fashion and modeling industry because it is what she has dreamed of becoming ever since she was a child.

Northern Virginia Fashion Week was created to awaken the sleeping giant that is Virginia. This event was created with the fashion eccentric person being at the top of the list for reasons to showcase in this area. A fashion week’s main objective is to produce exquisite designer shows in order to present the latest fashion trends in the industry. Designers that present during fashion week aren’t your day to day “this is my hobby” designer. Each designer and stylist presents collections that will make your heart skip beats as garments cruise down the runway. What we recommend and present on the runway are simply tools to allow you to look, feel and act better in our current economy. If you have even an ounce of fashion sense, attending Northern Virginia Fashion Week will surely catapult you to star status.

Events like ours allow participants from all around to learn and progress in their particular field. Makeup artists, models, designers, stylist alike have all learned valuable lessons and it’s our job to ensure that each season propels them into a more elite career. Attending fashion week for many people isn’t simply to see fashion as an event. It’s a critical time in the year that allows many companies to make imperative decisions on how they will continue as a business.
